Choosing the perfect place for your next family vacation can be tough. You want somewhere that has something for everyone to enjoy and doesn’t break the bank. Perfect family-friendly destinations typically have a good range of amenities and facilities with infrastructure that makes life easy for travelers. Parents often worry about safety, food options, accommodation and if there are enough attractions and activities for the kids to enjoy themselves.

For Europeans, the Mediterranean coast is a popular place for families looking for summer fun. The sunny weather, tasty food, beautiful beaches and wealth of attractions draws visitors aplenty. The abundance of islands offers even more choices for a families looking to get off the beaten path a bit. For those of us in the US, it’s often daunting to pick a place so far away. After some research, I have come up with some top recommendations for family-friendly destinations in the Mediterranean…all of which I am dying to visit. While you can do all of these on your own, you could also consider a Mediterranean cruise which could include it all with no hassle!

1. Dubrovnik, Croatia

Families can spend time on the sandy beaches as well as time exploring the coast with a sailing trip. Walk the city walls, explore the old fortresses of Revelin and Lovrjenac and gaze up at the towers of Bokar and Minceta. The Fort of St. John, Dubrovnik Cathedral, the Square of the Loggia and the Cultural Historical Museum are other highlights. Even with the cobblestone streets, the old city of Dubrovnik is filled with strollers all summer long as this city is easy to get around, has plenty of great food options and has an abundance of things to do if you are here for a few days or a week.

3. Sardinia, Italy

Emerald waters gently lap the soft sands providing a great place for older kids (teenagers & adults) can try their hand at paragliding. A visit to the nature reserve of the Blue Lagoon is sure to please the nature lovers in the family. Nearby Fethiye is also a great day-trip destination.

Other family-friendly destinations in the Mediterranean region include Cyprus, most of the Greek islands, Spain’s Costa del Sol and other seaside resorts, Morocco’s Tetouan, Malta and southern France.
