The Hotel Monaco in Seattle: Family Friendly Luxury

Sharing is caring!

hotel Monaco in SeattleLooking for accommodation in any city can be overwhelming. What area is the best place to stay? Is it walkable? How are the rooms? Is it kid friendly?  These are some of the thoughts that go racing through my head every time I am looking to book a hotel. I find booking accommodation to be one of the most overwhelming parts of planning a trip. However, when I see a Kimpton hotel in the destination we are traveling to, my stress is immediately reduced. Every Kimpton hotel I have had the pleasure of visiting has exceeded my expectations, which says a lot because I am not known to have low expectations for accommodation.

In Seattle, visitors are lucky because there are several Kimpton hotels to choose from. We were told that the Hotel Monaco was the most child friendly (and had availability for our dates!), so my search was quickly over.

The thick carpeting underfoot to dry your wet feet to the cozy fireplace surrounded by guests reading the paper makes you feel like you have stepped into a comfy hip community lounge! I loved it. The eclectic style, the use of bold colors and patterns is one of the main characteristics I find (and love) in Kimpton Hotels. The Hotel Monaco doesn’t disappoint here. The style throughout the hotel is gorgeously plush and modern without feeling pretentious or stuffy.

From the lobby to the rooms every detail was thought through. The staff are welcoming every step of the way. And to top it all off, their on-site restaurant, Sazerac was one of our favorite meals in Seattle. As an added bonus for families who travel with their pooches, the Hotel Monaco is a pet friendly hotel!

Central Location

Hotel Monaco in SeattleThe Hotel Monaco is a boutique luxury hotel ideally located in the heart of downtown Seattle. Nestled between the waterfront and Pioneer Square, the surrounding downtown area is bustling with options for food, music, art and history. Within walking distance of the Seattle Aquarium, the Great Wheel, the harbor and Pike Place Market, the Hotel Monaco provides a modern urban escape with first-class luxury offerings.  It is also less than 3 blocks from the Link light rail which makes it a snap to take public transportation to/from the airport as well as around town.

[box]Tip: When walking to Pike Place Market, head straight down 4th Avenue turning left at Pike Street to avoid walking up/down the hills.[/box]

Being within walking distance of so many attractions and restaurants makes this a great place to stay for families who are not traveling with a vehicle. From the Hotel Monaco you can easily and efficiently get to all of the major tourist attractions in town. Our 5 year old loved our weekend of walking and taking public transport, something he’s not used to in Los Angeles.

Stepping into the rooms at the Hotel Monaco, you will be enveloped in warm and comforting luxury. The rooms feel very posh, with high quality furnishings and eclectic art.

The Monte Carlo Suite was extremely spacious, with a full king size bed as well as a pull out couch in the sitting area. This room is perfect for families with 1 or 2 kids. The sitting room can be curtained off from the sleeping area to create the sense of two rooms. Both areas have their own TVs which made our little family very happy. Our son could watch his shows on one while we watched the news on the other. Perfection!

At the desk, there was a large multi-plug board in addition to the built in charge stations on the night stands, which is huge. No one likes to hunt around the room searching for available outlets. In addition, having a plug right next to the bed was a big bonus for me since I like to read my emails before going to sleep at night! The little touches that the Kimpton brand does so well, really make it all so perfect.

Kid Friendly Service

Hotel Monaco in SeattleThe attention to detail and thought put into every aspect of the Monaco Hotel adds up to make it absolutely superb. These small touches are even extended to the kiddos. From the moment we arrived, my son was enamored by these little touches. He was immediately directed to a footstool filled with cute toys while I dealt with check-in. My son was so excited to get a flying spinner to chase around the room!

Hotel Monaco in SeattleOnce in our suite, he was thrilled to find his ‘pet’ for the weekend, our companion gold fish Samphen. Now that he is getting “older”, he enjoys time on his own – the hand drawn curtain closing off the living room/pull out bed area was right up his alley.  He was also very happy to see a bathtub. There is nothing this well traveled 5 year old likes more than seeing a luxurious bathtub in our room, well maybe if it had jacuzzi like jets!

Every morning we would make our way downstairs to the coffee/tea service in the lobby just to add marshmallows to his morning oatmeal.  It is small gestures like this, that makes children feel like they are being given the royal treatment and matter just as much as the parents! Thank you Hotel Monaco, it really does make a difference.

Scrumptious Restaurant

hotel monaco in seattleSazerac is the only restaurant at the Hotel Monaco, which is fine by me, because it is fabulous! It may not feel like a kid friendly restaurant on the surface, but it actually is great. We started off with bacon wrapped dates which were mouthwateringly delicious. I’m drooling right now thinking back on them. For a main, my husband went all out on the New York Strip steak while I sampled the gorgeous pear and blue cheese pizza. It was perfectly thin and cooked to perfection. Pear and Gorgonzola salad is one of my all time favorites, but I’d never had it on a pizza. Now I have a new favorite for this combination. Rounding off the meal with decadent dessert was the icing on the cake. If you don’t have time for a full meal, stop in for coffee and one of their to die for deserts!

In addition to the exquisite menu for the grown-ups, the kids menu is right up there with simple dishes like buttered pasta and pizza to gourmet burgers and pulled pork sandwiches. We left stuffed and craving to return again the following evening! This was one of my 5 year old’s favorite meals during our weekend visit.

Ideal Luxury Hotel for Families

Hotel Monaco in SeattleMy adoration for the Kimpton brand can be put down to consistent quality, attention to detail and thoughtful special touches from the moment you walk into one of their properties to the moment you leave. The Hotel Monaco in Seattle, exemplifies the brand. It met and exceeded my lofty expectations. From our early check-in, upgrade to the Monte Carlo Suite and the fabulously warm welcome, we were glowing before we even made our way to our room. This is what luxury should feel like. Traveling as a family is not always stress-free, but landing at the Hotel Monaco in Seattle will be! Definitely give it a try for your next visit to Seattle, it will be worth it.

Hotel Monaco in Seattle - family friendly luxury as it should be done! Hotel Monaco in downtown Seattle, family friendly luxury as it should be!

I would like to thank the Monaco Hotel for providing us with a wonderful stay and meal at Sazerac. As always, all opinions, thoughts and reviews are my own.

  1. We do two types of travel 1) Budget or 2) Travel Hacking. So, the only time we do luxurious is when we travel hack (AKA get the hotel for free on points!!) With the amount of travel we do, I don’t think we could afford luxury all the time…although getting a goldfish in the room is pretty fun!!

    • We were spoiled after a decade in India with cheap 5* hotels so now I have a taste for luxury!! But we also try to mix it up. Can’t let go of my backpacker roots!

  2. We were just talking about visiting Seattle. I’ve never been. I love when the hotel room has a sitting area/living room and it is clearly divided from the bedroom. That way, Athena can sleep and we can still be awake without waking her. Looks like the ideal location as well.

  3. Every time I see these hotel posts I feel like abandoning my Airbnb style of accommodations and staying in a hotel like this one. Great post. I love the lobby with the fire place, it’s fantastic.

  6. The hotel looks stunning! Definitely a luxury accommodation fit for a family. And how cool is it to have your own “pet” for the weekend (and that he has a name)?!! 🙂 Beautiful hotel.

  7. I m looking at staying here as a first overnight getaway with our twins. We d like separation between the sitting area and sleeping area so we can put them down for bedtime in a separate area. How well do the curtains block light?

    • The curtains between the rooms is pretty thick. The sitting room is away from the windows so there shouldn’t be any light that gets to their area. But you will have to walk through their area for the bathroom…
