Trash Trucks – LA Sanitation Department’s Open House

Sharing is caring!

Cian's favorite trash truck and mine because the driver has written on the front 'sofa eater'!

Does your kid love ‘trash truck day’? My toddler is obsessed with trash pickup, trash trucks, trash cans and all things trash. He was watching YouTube videos of trash trucks at a local diner one morning when a kid in the next booth began telling him about all of the different types of trash trucks. My son was mesmerized that another boy was just as obsessed as he was.  He was even happier to learn that every year starting in April, LA’s 6 district yards open their doors to kids (young and old!), providing access to the all of the different type of trucks used in the city. Kids (and parents) can sit inside the trucks, pull the levers to dump trash cans, honk the horns and pretend they are trash collectors for a day. Many of the open houses also have trash truck games, free food and of course souvenir trash cans to take home. Our district yard gives away fruit trees and tomato plants to those who arrive early.

The North East yard is the one we attend and is one of the smaller yards, but it is still amazing for our son. Even a year later, my son still talks about his day at “trash truck house” and plays with his trash cans all the time.

We hope to hit up a few more to see how they are different. We hear that some of the larger yards even have rides for the kids.

Here are the dates for the remaining open houses for this year:

The festivities begin at 9 a.m. and usually go until 2:30 p.m. Remember to arrive early or towards the end to avoid the crush of people who turn up in the middle of the day.

For more information, check out the LA Sanitation Department’s website or their blog for next year’s dates as they are updated.

  2. I’m sure this was a good event. I think it’s important for people to see what garbage trucks are like and to know what garbage men really do. I think a lot of people would be surprised at how hard they work. They get pretty good pay and good benefits, though, so many people feel it’s worth it.

  3. Hey!

    I really enjoy you blog.
    So inspiring.

And I must say that Trash disposal is one of the most significant aspects of maintaining environmental cleanliness.

A big thanks to you,for sharing this information.

And trash trucks are the most important vehicles to keep our surroundings clean and healthy.

Waste trucks pick up the garbage from different parts of the city or town and off load it in the garbage dumping grounds or waste management sites established for this purpose.

Hope people will inspired from this.

Thanks a lot for sharing this .

    Keep doing good work.
    God Bless U! 🙂
