Best Hotel in Austin for Families – Embassy Suites

Best Hotel in Austin for Families Truth time. Finding accommodation is often quite daunting for me. Because of this, it tends to be my least favorite part of travel planning. There are so many options these days between chain hotels, adorable boutique hotels, private home rentals from sites like AirBnB, Homeaway, GlampingHub, etc. And then you have to decide which neighborhood and what amenities you want. Ack! It becomes information overload.

Even still, I spend hours searching out accomodation options. But time and time again I have found that I go back to tried and tested favorites. One of these is Embassy Suites. I have stayed in a variety of Hilton’s Embassy Suites in so many places, and they always deliver.

Where to stay in Austin with KidsOn our recent trip to Austin we had planned to stay with friends but they had a family emergency come up and I was left scrambling for a place to stay. As usual, I quickly became overwhelmed, but thankfully the best hotel in Austin for families that kept coming up in my search was also one of my favorites – Embassy Suites at Town Lake.

Location

Best Hotel in Austin for Families There are several Embassy Suites in Austin, but after mapping out the options, we found that the Downtown/Town Lake location was perfect for our needs. It is centrally located providing easy access to all my old favorites downtown and near the university, while also providing easy access to nature escapes and our friends living in the suburbs.

Apart from being a great location for what we wanted to do, it is also the perfect place for those who are interested in checking out Austin’s famous bats.  It was not bat season during our visit but that didn’t stop us from walking down to check out the action under the Congress Street bridge every night. We could hear the high pitched chatter telling us they were hidden up into the concrete crevices but we never saw any come out, even after an hour of waiting!

Best Hotel in Austin for Families The Embassy Suites is also perfect for those who like to get out on the trails for a morning walk or run. With trails on both sides of Town Lake within a block of the hotel, there is not excuse for not getting in some exercise while on vacation!

Rooms

My son is still laughing at me because I said randomly “The best thing about Embassy Suites are their sweet suites.” But it is true. As a family staying in a hotel, it’s easy to get on each others nerves when you are cramped into a small space. At the Embassy Suites, all of their rooms are two rooms, providing a great deal of space for spreading out. With a huge living room with a fold out bed and a door separating the bedroom, parents and kids can coexist here wonderfully. The rooms all open up into a beautiful indoor courtyard with glass ceiling tiles and an airy foyer.

The rooms at Embassy Suites come equipped with a mini fridge, microwave, coffee maker, desk and two TVs. In addition to the sink in the bathroom, there is an additional sink area to wash bottles, snack containers, etc. Again, perfect for family travel!

Amenities

Where to stay in Austin with KidsSo, we know that the location is perfect and the rooms are massive, but that’s not all. It gets even better when you dig a little deeper and look at the amenities offered. Being a budget conscious family, I am always on the hunt for ways to save money while on the road and Embassy Suites recognizes this and provides the answer.

Where to stay in Austin with kidsA massive buffet and cooked to order egg breakfast is provided free of charge every single day for guests. I have had my share of complimentary breakfasts that included yucky watery eggs and stale cereal, but Embassy Suites is not that. With a made to order eggs station offering up everything from scrambled eggs to massive omelets, you are sure to get your protein fill here. But there is more. Head over to the buffet section for fresh fruit, yogurt, a multitude of breads including bagels, english muffins and sweet muffins. They also have hot oatmeal, cereals, and ready made eggs, bacon, sausage and potatoes. If you stay over the weekend, you will also get treated to biscuits and gravy! For families, this is huge. One less meal to purchase definitely adds savings to a trip.

Another feature of his hotel that we loved was the Manager’s Reception every evening. It features a special cocktail of the day for free with a variety of snacks to wet your appetite for dinner. Hummus and pita, popcorn, chips and dip were some of the things on offer during our stay. Again, another bonus for families. Everyone can have a late afternoon snack to tide you over for dinner. My son made sure to visit every evening for his share of pita bread!

Where to stay in Austin with KidsApart from the food, there is even an indoor pool which totally surprised me. I hadn’t thought of there being that option in Texas, but it was awesome. We didn’t bring our suits so couldn’t get fully in, but my son loved sticking his feet in the ‘hot tub’ as he called the heated pool. This is a great addition for when it’s too cold to swim outside or even in the summer when it’s too hot and you want to chill out inside for a bit.

The only negative under the amenities list would be that parking was not included. It was a whopping $31 per day. If you know that you will be out of the hotel for most of the day every day, you could probably manage with parking on the street using the meter, but we didn’t want to mess with it and just paid the parking fee.  But this is something to keep in mind while planning your trip.

WiFi is also included for free for Hilton Honors members during your stay which is a must in my book these days. If you aren’t a Hilton Honors member, sign up now. Being a member can mean a few added bonuses like complimentary snacks in the room and dedicated WiFi.

Staff

Where to stay in Austin with KidsThe staff of a hotel can truly make or break a guests trip. From the moment we booked to the minute we left, we received nothing but great service from the employees. The phone operators were pleasant and patient with my 3 back to back calls, the front desk staff (a lovely woman from Tanzania!) was quick and courteous, even sending me a text message to make sure the room was to our liking! The personal touches were fabulous and well received.

But above and beyond their regular duties, I found that there were there for me in a pinch. When it looked like my son would lose his tooth, and I wouldn’t have the opportunity to get away to secure his treasure, I called the front desk to see if they could help facilitate the Tooth Fairy getting a golden coin. Even though it was Friday afternoon on a holiday weekend, they were right on it securing me a wonderful golden coin to go under my son’s pillow over the weekend. These are the small touches that truly make a hotel worth staying in over and over again.

Conclusion

Honestly we loved this hotel. The modern, comfortable decor, the excellent location and the fabulous staff reinforced our love for the Embassy Suites brand, and especially this specific one. The food, amenities and large suites make this a great choice for families looking for a home away from home during their visit. We would highly recommend you check it out for your next visit to Austin.
