Bluestem Hotel | One of the Best Hotels in Torrance CA

Sharing is caring!

Heading to Los Angeles’s South Bay area and looking for hotel options? Look no further – the Bluestem Hotel is one of the best hotels in Torrance CA!

Torrance is located just 15 minutes from LAX, and is well situated for various Southern California attractions, making it an excellent place to stay for a visit to Los Angeles. While there are plenty of chain hotel options in the area, in our opinion the best place to stay is at Torrance’s first boutique hotel, Bluestem.

Newly opened in 2019, this chic modern boutique hotel is a welcome addition to the scene in the South Bay. It is just another example of how Torrance is busy reinventing itself. With over 400 eateries, 11 breweries, art galleries and the beach, there are so many things to do in Torrance for your next stay. Read on to find out what we thought about the hotel and why it should be your only choice in Torrance!

Disclosure: My stay at Bluestem was hosted by Discover Torrance as part of a weekend trip to the area to explore all the family friendly things to do in Torrance California. As always, all opinions and thoughts are my own.

Why You Should Stay at the BlueStem Hotel

Bluestem Hotel: Their Story

One of the things that I love most about the Bluestem Hotel is their story. Bluestem is the first boutique hotel in Torrance, which is pretty cool itself. The hotel was converted from an old Travelodge hotel, but other than the actual footprint of the hotel, you would never know it.

The thing that I love the most about this hotel is that it was inspired by the local Madrona Marsh here in Torrance. From the name (bluestem is a type of grass found all over California) to the indoor/outdoor spaces to the art that adorns the rooms, this hotel has taken so much of what Torrance has to offer and created a homage of sort in the hotel space.

This could have easily been just another chain hotel, but instead, the owners really took care and thought to present a modern chic version of what Torrance is becoming day by day. The Bluestem Hotel is creating a great cornerstone for what it means to have local pride. This local touch along with the excellent service is what I love most about the hotel!

Location of BlueStem

The location of the Bluestem Hotel is ideal for visitors who will be on the move while in town. Located on a major street means that you will have quick access to get around to where you need to go. The hotel is within minutes of everywhere we wanted to visit while in Torrance.

The beach is 4.5 miles away, while the Del Amo Fashion Center is only 2 miles away. Within literally seconds of the hotel are a variety of options for eating and going out. The Madrona Marsh is just down the road as are some of our favorite restaurants.

Hotel Amenities

The Bluestem Hotel is a boutique hotel, but that does not equate to a high price tag. Instead it is what I like to think of as the best of both worlds. All of the amenities (mini fridge, parking, etc) and convenience of a roadside hotel combined with the details, care and attention found in chic upscale boutique hotels. This is my kind of place!

The Bluestem Hotel is also a place that all people will feel at home – from families to couples to business travelers. During our short stay, we saw all of the above, including a gentleman who was returning for another long stay due to business. This is exactly what I like to see when I choose a hotel – people who want to return time and time again.

Apart from the beautifully decorated and welcoming hotel lobby, the hotel also offers a variety of amenities that aren’t always so easy to come by in cities these days including free WiFi, parking and a continental/hot breakfast. There are also bike racks, fire pits and games in the lobby, as well as a small gym.

Keep an eye out for the upcoming morning yoga sessions on the outside deck! I love that Bluestem is looking to their clientele to continue implementing activities for the guests as they grow into their space.

Rooms

Bluestem has a total of 58 rooms, offering beautiful artful surroundings with chic furnishings and various pieces of art in the rooms. Rooms come with either 2 double beds (perfect for families) or a king bed. And the beds, let me tell you are plush and oh so comfy!

In addition to the standard rooms, there are a few executive rooms that are even more spacious, offering a wet bar, balcony, lounge chair and curated amenities in the bathroom. These rooms have high ceilings which make them feel even more spacious. That said, these rooms face the street, they do get a decent amount of street noise. If you are a light sleeper, avoid those!

Honestly, we loved our stay here. The manager came to meet us as we were leaving and asked us for our honest feedback. It is everything I have said here. We really had no complaints. The rooms were lovely, fresh and inspiring. The staff were super friendly and welcoming. And the wifi was fast!
