Do you have a construction loving little one? If so, this is the post for you!
My son gets confused with all of the large warehouse type stores, so when he sees Home Depot he says “This is my favorite Target!” very excitedly. It must run in the genes. His grandfather is a contractor and that is also his favorite “Target”!
With grandpa in town we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to participate in Home Depot’s monthly Kid’s Workshop. What is better than kids doing what they love? Doing things they love for free!
This is really a great activity to do with any of your craft or construction loving little ones. This gives your kids an opportunity to use real tools, while creating something that is useable. It is not just for boys either. At our visit there were more girls than boys even!
Every month provides the opportunity for a different creation, anything from chalkboard planters to building a Home Depot truck. Home Depot provides all of the tools, supplies and easy to follow directions. The kids are ecstatic to take home their self-made product. Along with their project, each child also receives a Home Depot apron with their name on it and a button with the current project displayed. As soon as my son saw an older girl’s apron covered in buttons he stated that he must go to every one of these forever! Looks like you know where to find us every 1st Saturday of the month!
Details
Age: Home Depot’s website states that the workshop is only for kids aged 5-12, but we saw kids as young as 2 there with their parents. They organizers didn’t seem to be strict on ages since it is a parent participation workshop.
Location: Your local Home Depot
Date: 1st Saturday of the month
Time: 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. (Arrive on the earlier side as supplies are limited.)
What to bring: Everything you will need will be supplied, so just bring yourself and your construction ready little one.
Each month there is a different project often with special giveaways as well. For the month of April, our local Home Depot made a planter and had a fun egg hunt afterwards. Another month they gave away fruit trees. Check with your local store to find out what surprises are in store.
