Top Photo Opportunities in Rio de Janeiro

Sharing is caring!

It might not be the Brazilian capital, but Rio De Janeiro is the city most of us think about when we consider a trip to Brazil. That’s probably no surprise seeing that this sprawling seaside town offers some of the most iconic sights in the country. Not to mention that this is the home of Carnaval, and was also the stage for the 2016 Olympics. If you’re thinking about a Brazilian trip anytime soon, then, you wouldn’t be alone in putting Rio at the top of your list.

Unsurprisingly, Rio’s prime location in one of the prettiest countries in the world makes it a hotspot for some pretty astounding photo opportunities. It might not be the Amazon, but getting your camera out here is sure to capture some of the most iconic vacation snaps imaginable.

There are so many astounding sights here, in fact, that you may have to take a hard drive along with you to free up memory card space on your camera. You might even want to learn how to screenshot on Mac or your Windows laptop so that you can email your best shots straight to your home computer. Once you have the space to get shooting, though, you can finally make the most of iconic Rio sights like these four top picks.

Christ the Redeemer

Photo opportunities in RioHave you even been to Rio if you don’t get a picture with the iconic Christ the Redeemer? Located at the top of Corcovado, this 98ft tall statue of Christ has been the most iconic Brazilian attraction since its erection in 1931. The sheer size of this astounding feature is sure to send shivers down your spine, not to mention the fantastic views of the rest of Rio. Bear in mind that everyone wants a snap here so you may have to queue. Luckily, this is a picture worth waiting for.

Pao De Acucar (aka Sugar Loaf Mountain)

Photo opportunities in RioAmazingly, Corcovado isn’t the most astounding mountain in Rio, despite its iconic statue. That award goes to Pao De Acucar (also known as Sugar Loaf Mountain). This amazing mountain is a staggering 396m above sea level. Unsurprisingly, then, this is one of those spectacular things to do which you’re guaranteed to want a picture of. Even the cable car up the mountain offers some of the most stunning sights you’ve probably ever seen. Make sure, then, that you take your camera out that day!

Praia de Ipanema is A Beautiful Beach Photo Spot

Photo opportunities in RioThis, the only beach on our photo opportunity list, may be a little controversial. That’s because most people would argue that Copacabana beach is THE Rio beach to visit. When it comes to pictures, though, that might not be your best bet. Copacabana beach may have views of Sugar Loaf, but it’s a sprawling and busy tourist attraction which doesn’t always have that stunning Rio feel. By comparison, Praia de Ipanema is a quieter and generally more attractive beach option. The views here are undoubtedly worth capturing, too, especially if you head down here and watch the sun setting over those distant hills!

Selaron Steps is A Fun Photo Opportunity in Rio

Known in Portuguese as Escadaria Selarón, also known as the ‘Selaron Steps’, these world famous mosaic stairs have claimed their spot in fame. People come from near and far to have their photo taken on these iconic stairs. This fun tourist site offers opportunities for great photos as well as an insight into the local community. This local art installation was created by Chilean-born artist Jorge Selarón who claimed it as “my tribute to the Brazilian people.

What do you think, are these the top Rio spots for photo opportunities?
