The Cliffs Resort Pismo Beach | Luxury on the California Coast

Sharing is caring!

On our recent trip to San Luis Obispo Country with SLO CAL Tourism, we had the amazing opportunity to stay at The Cliffs Spa & Hotel in Pismo Beach. If you are headed to the San Luis Obispo area, there are many cool options for places to stay, but none compare with the luxury, location and fabulous service provided at The Cliffs Resort Pismo Beach. We would highly recommend it for your next visit or even if you are just passing through on a Pacific Coast Highway road trip.

Read on to find out why we loved it so much!

Classically Cool Luxury at The Cliffs Resort Pismo Beach

Classically Cool Luxury at The Cliffs Resort Pismo BeachFrom the moment you walk into The Cliffs Resort, you will be greeted by amazingly friendly staff and a beautiful opulence that makes you feel comfortably at home. You will find yourself drawn to the fireplace sitting area to sit down and relax like it’s your own home.

We loved our stay at The Cliffs Resort Pismo Beach for many reasons, but top of the list was the feeling of luxury that the hotel exudes without being stuffy (if you know what I mean). While not considered a 5 star hotel, The Cliffs Resort provides exceptional service and attention to detail just as you would find in any of the world’s finest hotels.

In addition to the wonderful collection of rooms and suites available, the hotel also offers a wide range of amenities making this perfect for luxury travelers, family travelers and even those who are more economical travelers.

Amenities at The Cliffs Spa & Hotel

Classically Cool Luxury at The Cliffs Resort Pismo BeachFor me it’s all about the details in a hotel. Here at The Cliffs you can expect excellent views, free Wifi, fresh baked cookies, dog friendly rooms and so much more.

The Cliffs provides all the basic hotel amenities you would expect like an in-room mini-fridge, safe, hair dryer and iron, while also providing DIY laundry facilities which is awesome for road trippers and families alike.

But apart from these, it is the little touches that really made our visit stand out. For example, we loved the in-room digital concierge, Okay Roxy. This was our first time seeing this system and I have to say we were delighted! My son LOVED that he could get Roxy to play his favorite Imagine Dragons songs and I loved that we could ask it all of the little questions we had about the hotel. For example, did you forget when they said breakfast was served? Yep, me too. No worries, just ask your Okay Roxy! This is a cool high tech system that provides answers to many questions guests may have.

And who could forget the massive jacuzzi bath that comes in many of the suites. Love it! A hot tub or a big bath is the way to my little child’s heart. Mine too, since it makes my job of bath time so much easier to negotiate.

Exquisite Dining at Marisol

Amazing treats like cookies at the Cliffs Resort Pismo BeachWhen speaking of luxury, I must also always include the food on offer. Having access to delicious food is truly a luxury and The Cliffs does it well. From the little snacks and cookies provided in the hotel lobby each day all the way to the in house restaurant Marisol at the Cliffs, the food here is delicious. My son loved coming into the hotel each day to see what snacks would be provided. He had hot apple cider with cookies one day and a sample of cheese and crackers another.

We only had the opportunity to eat breakfast at Marisol, but if that is anything to go off of, I would venture to guess their lunch and dinner menus are just as wonderful. Our breakfast was large, delicious and served to us quickly which was the perfect way to get our day going before heading out to ride sand dune buggies at Oceano Beach.

Ideal Location for a Central California Coast Visit

The Cliffs Resort Pismo Beach | Beautiful views over the Pacific OceanOne of the best things about The Cliffs Hotel and Spa is its beachside location in Pismo Beach. Not only is it right on the beach, it is also right off the highway making it super convenient for travelers passing through. But trust me, you will want to book a few days here even if you are just cruising through on the Pacific Coast Highway route.

We spent 3 nights here and our days motoring around to all the sites from Pismo Beach to Avila to Cambria and San Luis Obispo. This hotel is perfectly located only 3.5 hours from Los Angeles and within 30-40 minutes of most places on the SLO area. Our furthest drive was to the elephant seals in San Simeon and that was about 45 min. It really is the best place to stay in the area no matter what your plans are.

You also cannot beat the gorgeous sunrise and sunset views from the hotel! Make sure to ask for an Ocean View room.

Dog’s Welcome – The Best Perk at The Cliffs Resort

A dog friendly hotel in Pismo BeachI am not a dog owner, but just look around at the world today and you will see just how many people cannot leave their little furry friends at home. Travelling with man’s best friend isn’t always easy though, which makes The Cliffs Resort Pismo Beach such a unique hotel on the Central Coast. We toured the ground floor which is the dog friendly level and were in love. The rooms open up onto grassy or sandy areas perfect for a quick potty break in the middle of the night. The rooms all have hardwood floors and from what I hear your little pooch will get its own bed, bowls and more.

How can you not love a hotel that loves all of their guests regardless of how much fur they may or may not have?!

Celebrate the Holidays in The Christmas Suite

The Cliffs Resort Pismo Beach | Luxury on the California Coast at ChristmasBeing on the road at the holidays can either be super lonely or totally amazing. If you are at The Cliffs Resort Pismo Beach, it will be the latter. From the beautifully decorated lobby to a special Christmas themed suite and nightly activities you can’t help but be sucked into the holiday spirit.

We had the opportunity to stay in the fantastical new Christmas Suite which was absolutely magical. The ocean front suite  comes with a full size fully decorated Christmas tree, a large stocking filled with candy canes, mistletoe and lovely decorative poinsettias all around the room. The beautifully decorated suit almost had me sending Santa a new address notice for our holiday packages!

As with the regular rooms, it is the little touches that make a difference. Here the addition of Christmas story books for my son to read before bed were a huge hit.

The Christmas Suite at the Cliffs Resort Pismo BeachIf I were ever in need of a place to stay for the holiday this would be my top choice.

In addition to the beautiful decorations in the room and throughout the hotel, we loved the nightly holiday themed activities. One night during our stay we participated in stocking decoration which was super fun. I hope that the hotel continues their 12 nights of Christmas activities in the years to come as it was a highlight of our stay.

If you are traveling around the holidays, I highly recommend booking this suite. It will get you in the holiday spirit and make you want to stay here for Christmas Day. The beautifully thought out decorate provided a truly magical stay.

Things to Know (Before You Book) at The Cliffs Pismo Beach

One of the things that I always try to help readers with are the little tidbits that you may not know in advance of booking a hotel. To help you out with that, below are a few things I think all guests should know before booking their stay at The Cliffs Spa & Hotel.

The Cliffs Spa & Hotel has instituted a $25 resort fee which is added to each night of your stay. This fee includes free VALET parking for your entire visit, WiFi and access to all the resort’s other amenities. I am not a fan of extra hotel charges on top of nightly rates, but we loved our stay here so much I will give them a pass. That said, you should factor this cost into your booking.

One other quirk at the hotel that is important to know before you book is that you must pay for a breakfast voucher BEFORE you have breakfast at the onsite restaurant Marisol. You can do this by either including it with your room when you book your stay or at the check in desk upon arrival. I did not know about this and went to breakfast without it. It wasn’t an issue, but later the hotel staff informed me that the rate would be cheaper if I purchased a voucher in advance. So there you go. Book breakfast in advance. For the record, the breakfast was SO good, it is worth getting up for!

Lastly, as you read above, dogs are allowed at The Cliffs Pismo Beach Spa & Hotel. If you are not a dog fan, make sure to request a room that is NOT dog friendly so you will not be downstairs with the pooches who may bark or make noise or you know be dogs!

Are you ready to book your stay here? Don’t believe me, read their amazing reviews on TripAdvisor too!
